At the YMCA Community Learning Centers, we are partnering with Tacoma Creates to bring incredible arts opportunities to students in the Tacoma School District in 2020.
Tacoma Creates is a voter-approved initiative to increase access to arts, culture, heritage, and science experiences throughout Tacoma by reducing barriers to access and expanding offerings, particularly for under-served youth. Eligible non-profit arts, culture, heritage, and science organizations are able to apply for funding that helps them expand equitable access to public programs, increase opportunities in neighborhoods throughout Tacoma, expand educational options for youth, and build sustainability for ongoing cultural programs that provide value for residents throughout the City of Tacoma.
We are excited to be partnering with leading arts organizations and institutions to deliver new arts programming; Tacoma Arts Live, Museum of Glass, Hill Top Artists, Centro Latino, FabLab, and The Kareem Kandi World Orchestra. Along with YMCA teaching artists, we now provide 32 classes each week in Tacoma Middle Schools!
Our staff have witnessed students participating in the arts for the first time, broadening their horizons through discovery, and expressing themselves in creative ways. This has been a transformational experience for all of us.
This incredible work is made possible by Tacoma Creates, the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties, and people like you. Y Arts Outreach is funded by support from our donors and community grants.
Please join me in supporting this crucial work. The arts truly have the power to transform lives.
