The Army moved my husband Robert and I to Washington in May 2019. When I arrived in Washington I did not know anyone, I was not familiar with the area, I did not have job, AND my husband was deployed. To say I was lonely is an understatement! I was hired by the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties in June 2019 and I have been welcomed with open arms- this warmth and acceptance continues to have a positive impact on my life.
Since joining the Y family I have been able to witness and contribute to the awesome things our association does for our community. In the Child Care branch, our programs provide healthy snacks/lunches, homework help, and group play in a safe environment - but beyond that they also provide stability, create positive adult relationships, promote our core values (honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility), and facilitate leadership skills for all of our participants.
Some kids need the benefits our programs provide more than others, and quite often it is the kids and their families that need the most support who experience the most barriers to access. 1 in 3 families we serve in our Before and After School child care programs receive financial assistance from the Y or other subsidy. We are only able to offer financial assistance to our families because of the funds raised from the Annual Campaign.
100% of the money donated to the Annual Campaign is put to use for families who need it most- no percentage of a donation is set aside for "Miscellaneous" costs.
I believe in the work the Y does and I can assure you that the impact is real, important, and needed.
I have pledged $1000 to Annual Campaign 2020 and I encourage you to donate as well. There is no amount to big or too small. Every contribution is so greatly appreciated.
